Statistical Brief

Home Education, as defined in Section 1002.01 Florida Statutes, is "sequentially progressive instruction of a student directed by his or her parent or guardian in order to satisfy the requirement for compulsory education as defined in Florida Statutes 232.01." No specific curriculum is prescribed.

1990-01 to 2006-07

 

 

Leon County Schools Home Education Program gives parents the freedom to determine their child’s educational path and allows students to learn and explore at their own pace, in any location or at any time of the day.  Approximately 1,000 students in more than 600 families were registered in home education programs in 2006-2007.  The charts below show the trends in enrollment from 1990-91 to 2006-07.

Next Steps: Plans are in place for collecting other information for subsequent reports. Racial/ethnic and age distributions and the reasons for establishing a home education program will be analyzed.
